Slack

Connecting NeuBird to your Slack workspace enables alert notifications and incident communication directly in Slack channels. You can also trigger investigations, ask NeuBird questions, and receive investigation summaries without leaving Slack. The connection uses OAuth authentication via a Slack App.

Set Up the Connection

1. Start the connection: In the Platform, go to Connections → Add connection → Slack, then click Add to Slack.

   

2. Authorize the connection: On the Slack authorization page, select the target workspace in the workspace selector, then click Allow to grant NeuBird access. Installing an app may need a Slack workspace admin, depending on your workspace’s app settings.

   

3. Sign in: If prompted, enter your NeuBird email address and password, then click Continue to finalize authentication.

4. You’re connected: NeuBird sends you a direct message with quick-start tips as soon as the workspace is connected.

   

Add NeuBird to a Channel

NeuBird only works in channels it is a member of. Add it to each channel where you want to use it, in any of these ways:

• Mention it: type @NeuBird and your question in the channel and send it. Slackbot replies that NeuBird isn’t in the channel. Click Add Them, then Add. NeuBird joins and answers your message.
• Invite it: run /invite @NeuBird in the channel.
• From the channel settings: click the channel name, open the Agents & apps tab (Integrations in some workspaces), click Add agents and apps (or Add an App), then pick NeuBird.

When NeuBird joins, it posts a short welcome in the channel: what it does, which project the channel uses, and a few example questions. If the channel has no project yet, the welcome says so; set one as described in Set a Project for a Channel or the Workspace. You can change or turn off this welcome from the Home tab (see The Home Tab).

Using NeuBird in Slack

Once connected, you can interact with NeuBird directly from your Slack workspace.

View all commands: In any channel where NeuBird is a member, type /neubird help and press Enter to see the full list of available commands. Slash command replies are only visible to you.

Note

Commands are slash commands (/neubird …). Questions and investigations are @mentions (@NeuBird …). An @mention is always treated as a question, so @NeuBird help asks NeuBird a question rather than showing the command list.

/neubird set project	Open the project picker and choose from the list. Run inside a channel to preselect it; tick Set as global project to make it the default for every channel. unset project / unset global-project remove them.
/neubird show config	Show the current project settings for the channel.
/neubird summarize [days]	Catch up on this channel’s conversation (default 3 days, max 14).
/neubird listen on	Let NeuBird chime in on this channel’s conversation when it can help, without being mentioned. listen off stops it, listen status shows the channel’s state. Available once ambient listening is enabled for your organization.
/neubird notify channels [@user]	Subscribe yourself (or someone else) to incident channel invites. remove-notify channels unsubscribes.
/neubird subscribe investigations <project name>	Receive notifications in this channel when investigations are created for the project. unsubscribe investigations stops them.
/neubird disconnect	Disconnect this Slack workspace from your NeuBird organization.

Set a Project for a Channel or the Workspace

NeuBird answers questions and runs investigations against a project. Each channel can have its own project, and the workspace can have a global project that applies to every channel without one.

• To see the list of all projects available in your NeuBird account:

  /neubird list projects

  

• To pick a project, run the command in the channel you want to configure:

  /neubird set project

  A picker opens with that channel preselected. Choose the project and click Save.

  • Tick Set as global project to also make it the default for every channel. It is ticked automatically the first time, when the workspace has no global project yet.
  • Run the command from a direct message with NeuBird, or click Set up channels in the welcome message or the Home tab, to pick the channel yourself.

• /neubird unset project removes the channel’s project; /neubird unset global-project removes the global one.

@Mentioning NeuBird

Mention the bot in any channel it belongs to, to ask a question or trigger an investigation in plain language:

@NeuBird why is the payments API latency spiking?

NeuBird replies in a thread on your message. Depending on the connection’s Investigation summaries setting, it can also broadcast the answer to the channel so the rest of the channel sees the response in context.

• While it’s working: the reply is a live card that shows the investigation’s title and progress. Cancel investigation on the card stops a run you no longer need. Mention NeuBird in the thread to steer the running investigation, for example “focus on the database”; NeuBird adds your note to the card and uses it. It doesn’t start a second investigation in a thread while one is running there.
• Follow-ups: once the result is in, reply in the same thread and mention NeuBird again. It keeps the context of the investigation it just ran.
• How deep to go: start your question with <Medium>, <High> or <Exhaustive> to choose how thoroughly NeuBird investigates, for example @NeuBird <High> why is checkout latency high?
• Screenshots and documents: attach a screenshot or a PDF to your mention. NeuBird reads images and documents and uses them in its answer.
• Feedback: click ⭐ Rate on a result to give a thumbs up or down, pick the areas it applies to, and add a note. A 👍 or 👎 reaction on an answer also records feedback.

If someone without a NeuBird account mentions NeuBird, it may first ask them to accept the Terms and create an account. People whose email domain doesn’t match your NeuBird organization are told they aren’t part of it.

Investigation Summaries in Slack

When an investigation completes, NeuBird posts a summary card to the configured channel. The summary includes:

• The key findings from the investigation
• NeuBird’s confidence in the result
• A link back to the Platform for the full investigation, chain of thought, and supporting evidence
• ⬇️ Download for the RCA report and ⭐ Rate for feedback

The card format is the same as the investigation replies shown above. Whether the summary is posted thread-only (as a reply on the triggering message) or broadcast to the channel is controlled by the connection’s Investigation summaries setting (see Slack Settings in the Platform).

Notifications

There are two ways to get NeuBird’s incident activity into Slack:

• Subscribe a channel with /neubird subscribe investigations <project name>. NeuBird posts the project’s incident investigations to that channel.
• Notification rules in the Platform give you more control. Go to Notifications → New notification, choose what to watch (for example Signals), when it fires (Signal arrives, Signal investigated, Investigation completed or Investigation updated), and add a Slack channel under Where. Use Match to narrow the rule by source, title or alert fields. A rule can also create a new channel for each signal. See Notifications for every option.

Alert notification cards offer Create incident channel, which opens a dedicated channel for that incident. Investigation cards don’t.

The Home Tab

Open NeuBird in Slack (under Apps in the sidebar, or click its name on any of its messages and then Message) and select its Home tab. It shows the workspace’s NeuBird settings, including:

• 👋 Channel welcome message: the text NeuBird posts when it joins a channel. Click ✏️ Customize (or Edit) to write your own, using Slack formatting, up to 2,500 characters. ↺ Reset to default goes back to the built-in welcome. A custom welcome replaces the intro and listening lines; NeuBird still adds the project-setup reminder when a channel has no project, and a pointer to /neubird help.
• Post a welcome message when I’m added to a channel: on by default. Untick it and NeuBird joins channels without posting anything. Your custom text is kept for when you turn it back on.
• Ambient listening settings, such as how often NeuBird chimes in on its own (Chattiness: Low, Medium or High).
• Channel to Project Mappings: the channels mapped to each project. Add New Mapping maps another channel.

Slack Settings in the Platform

Open the Slack connection on the Connections page to change how NeuBird behaves in your workspace:

Automatically join incident channels created by alert sources	On by default. When a source like Incident.io creates a channel for an incident, NeuBird joins it and starts an investigation.
Channel naming	How channels made with an incident card’s Create incident channel button are named, for example neubird-incident-{incident-id}.
Investigation summaries	Auto (AI decides) judges per investigation whether the summary is worth broadcasting. Thread only keeps it in the thread. Thread + channel also posts it to the channel.
Default channels	Where each project’s incident notifications go when no service-specific rule matches. Also editable on the project’s On-call page.
Automatically listen in channels the bot joins	Off by default, so channels start quiet. Turn listening on per channel with /neubird listen on.
Where the bot listens	For example, Only threads the bot is mentioned in.

Upgrading the Connection

When NeuBird ships features that need additional Slack permissions, older installs keep their original grant, so new commands or capabilities can fail or stay invisible until you re-authorize. To upgrade, simply re-run the install: go to Connections → Add connection → Slack → Add to Slack and click Allow again for the already-connected workspace. This re-grants NeuBird’s Slack access with the latest scopes and updates the existing connection in place — for example, the read scopes (such as channel history) that let NeuBird use Slack as a data source during investigations.

Troubleshooting

What you see	What to do
NeuBird doesn’t answer in a channel	Add NeuBird to the channel (see Add NeuBird to a Channel), and include a question after the mention.
NeuBird says it can’t find the channel’s project	Run /neubird set project in the channel and pick one, or set a global project.
